Pipe Failures that could occur on your property

There are multiple types of water lines flowing through our properties every day. Most of the time, these water networks go unnoticed. However when one fails, it can quickly create a large amount of water damage.

Frozen pipes

Harsh cold snaps during the winter can lead to frozen pipes within your property. As the ice freezes, it can cause the pipe to expand while causing tiny little cracks within the water line. The damage however occurs when the weather warms and ice melts. Suddenly, property owners can experience thousands of gallons of water infiltrating their home in a matter of minutes.

Failed pipes

Overtime, waterlines within a property can corrode and fail. Even the tiniest crack in a waterline can lead to devastating water damage.

If this occurs in your home, there is no time to lose. The first thing to do is turn off the main water valve to the property and call a certified restoration contractor.

Since water from failed pipes is considered clean water- the cleanup is relatively simple. These types of failures are typically covered by insurance and are not considered catastrophic.

Appliance failure

There are several different types of appliances within a property that utilize water. When any one of these goes awry, you could be faced with some unpleasant water damage.

Water Heater-typically located in the basement or attic, when a water heater fails, it can dump a massive amount of water relatively quickly.

Sump pump- The key is to keep the pump free of debris and test it periodically to ensure proper function. However, if it does fail, the clean-up will require a certified professional.

Dishwasher- Small waterline connections can fail, and when this occurs, water can seep into your subfloors, drenching flooring materials, insulation and anything else it contacts.

Washing Machine- Located in various areas of a property, when a waterline breaks, this can cause flooding within the subfloors, drywall, insulation and more.

Ice Machine- Ice can commonly get backed-up, causing the machine to malfunction. Similar to dishwashers and washing machines, water can damage surrounding walls, floors and building materials that are in within close proximity.

Failed Sprinkler Lines

Over our 25 years of experience, we have seen a few cases where interior sprinklers have been set off- even without a fire present. This can completely saturate all building materials and contents within the sprinkler’s path.

At Property Damage Restoration Services of Texas, we can handle not only the mitigation, but restoration of contents as well.
